Warning Signs from the Future

Submitted by Will on Sunday, 5 November 2006No Comment

Here are some warning signs that we will need in the future:

Signs of the future autonomous device

Warning: Autonomous Device
This sign coud be used around devices that will think for themselves with high level artificial intelligence. This device will start doing things when and how it “wants” to. It is thinking for itself, which may be disconcerting to humans at first.

Signs of the future self replicating

Warning: Self-Replicating Device
This, in my opinion is among the most dangerous future technologies – Self Replication. These devices will be able to duplicate exponentially in suitable environments. Human ability to stop them, shut them off, or influence them will dimishish as they replicate faster then humans can respond.

Signs of the future surveillance

 Warning: Ubiquitous Surveillance
This one is starting to happen now. With new technologies, you will be survailed in certain areas. This is not just a camera shooting pictures. With new technologies, you will be identified by your face or the way you walk, or the way you move, then logged and stored in someone’s large database.

There is an entire flickr photoset of signs from the future here:
