Six IT Trends
Gatner released six IT trends that it belives will have a big impact on people, business, and IT…
1. By 2008, 10 percent of companies will require employee-purchased notebooks. Notebooks at work are being used for personal use by employees. This is similar to the concept of a company giving a “car allowance” to a person that uses their car for personal use and for company use. Companies could give employees an allowance for a laptop, and the employee could purchase one for work and also use it for personal use.
2. By 2010, 30 percent of U.S. homes will use only cellular or Internet telephony.
3. The job market for IT specialists will shrink 40 percent by 2010. IT generalists, or “versitists” who can work in business and IT accross a lot of specialites will be more in demand.
4. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) service providers will capture $11 billion of insurance revenue by 2008.
5. 50 percent growth in healthcare software investment could enable clinicians to cut the level of preventable deaths in half by 2013.
6. Through 2008, investigation of new technologies will slow as discretionary budgets divert to regulatory compliance.
“Gartner, Inc. unveiled six IT industry trends that it expects will cause significant disruption and drive opportunity for business and the IT industry in 2006 and beyond. “These six IT trends are expected to drive market growth, representing revenue opportunities for both incumbents and new market entrants in each space,” said Daryl Plummer, group vice president and chief Gartner Fellow. “To catch the waves of change at their early stages, vendors, users and investors in technology will need to look outside their industries to find early adopters that provide inspiration for how these trends translate into business value.”"
